Soaring sales are in response to the crime wave caused by migrants since Chancellor Merkel opened the door to them in 2015.
CIW NEWS has a Migrant-Crime Fear Index for Germany calculated monthly. Based at 100 before Merkel’s invitation, it was at 151 at the end of 2017. The indexes should revert to 100 as people become used to a higher level of crime. That all indexes remain higher than the base level suggests people do not view crime as having stabilized but as as a threat that continues to grow.
Weapons sales are soaring in Germany, prompting fears that a migrant crimewave and terrorism have made people feel unsafe.
Germans held a record 557,560 licences for minor arms by the end of last year, compared to 300,949 in January 2016.
The surge of more than 85 per cent in just two years has left some dealers of non-lethal weapons such as air and stun guns unable to keep up with demand.
