Turkish authorities are furious at Greece’s decision to grant asylum to a pilot accused of playing a key role in an attempted coup against President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in July 2016.
The mayor of Lesbos, Spyros Galinos, warned Turkey could allow thousands to cross onto the island in response, and that locals would not be able to cope with the influx.
Mr Galinos said it was not up to him to say whether the man should have been granted amnesty.
