Subhead: “Around 500 police searched homes in Kassel and three other cities on Tuesday. They suspect six Syrians have prepared an attack on the Essen Christmas market.”
It is almost a year since this terrorist attack in Germany:
Eleven patrons are slaughtered when a hijacked truck plows into a crowd at a Christmas market outside a church. The Tunisian-born attacker, Anis Amri, had arrived in Europe in 2011 on a refugee raft. He lied about his age, pretending to be a minor. After jail time in Italy for his role in a migrant riot, he arrived in Germany in 2015 and applied for asylum in 2016.
In Kassel, Hanover, Essen and Leipzig police searched a total of eight apartments on Tuesday morning. The Attorney General Frankfurt investigates six Syrian nationals aged between 20 and 28 years. They should belong to the Islamic State (IS).
The men were provisionally arrested, at least two of them in Kassel. One of the apartments searched there was according to hr information already a year ago the target of an anti-terrorist operation.
Plotted on city maps Essen Christmas market
The accused are suspected, according to the message of the State formentation, to have prepared an attack with weapons or explosives. According to the findings of the investigators, the attack planning was not yet completed. As the hr learned from investigator circles, they should have planned an attack on the Essen Christmas market and a shopping center. Officially, the investigators did not want to confirm that on Tuesday. The city of Essen said in the evening, there was concrete evidence for an attack scenario on the Christmas market.
