The Turkish Air Force violated Greek airspace in 2017 so far at more than double the rate of 2016 (2,847 violations of the national airspace to October 22 this year versus 1,671 for 2016).


Explanation of the provocation of the Turkish Air Force in 2017 shows evidence released by the Air Force General Staff (GAO), as compared to last year, the armored Turkish formations that entered the FIR of Athens without a flight plan tripled, while the interferences of Greek – Turkish fighters.

From January 1st to October 22nd 2017, 1,147 Turkish aircraft were fired at Athens FIR. At the same time, 944 infringements of the air traffic rules at the Athens FIR and 2,847 violations of the national airspace have been recorded. The armed formations were 237 interceptions recorded with the Greek aircraft 167, while 36 flights of Turkish aircraft were recorded over Greek islands.

Similarly, 1,016 Turkish aircraft were entered in 2016, 902 air traffic law infringements were recorded in the Athens FIR and 1,671 violations of the national airspace. The armed formations were 86, 68 seizures were recorded and 57 flights were recorded over Greek islands.
