But his radical followers remain. An eye-opening survey of Muslim attitudes in Italy was published in September. Among its findings:
On the question of whether Islam must conquer all Western nations, a third of males agreed and a third did not answer. 48% of children agreed and 21% did not answer. Those who had been in Italy more than three years were slightly more likely to agree than those who had been in the country for a shorter time period.

A Muslim religious leader from Kosovo was expelled from Italy for posing threat of national security, according to Italian media.
The imam identified as Idriz Idrizovic, 39, was deported from the city of Lecco in the northern Lombardy region, where he lived since 2008, at the order of the Italian Interior Ministry, according to Ansa news agency.
The man was allegedly linked to other Muslim preachers from the Balkans, who are believed to support an extremist view of Islam. Officers from military police Carabinieri arrested the imam at his home on Monday, and a court in Lecco later upheld the ministry’s expulsion order on the basis that the man represented a danger for Italy, state broadcaster RAI News 24 also reported.
